Another photo of Donitz wearing the Italian decoration around the neck. On GMIC forum I was told that on the first photo I posted few days ago Donitz is wearing the Commander's Cross of the Miltiary Order of Savoy. Does this second photo confirm the Order of Savoy? Can we concluded it is not the Order of SS Maurice and Lazarus?

You also mentioned you have seen photos of Donitz wearing the Order of Savoy. Can you perhaps post them here for comparison? I can't find any.

Photo of German soldiers wearing foreign decorations.

To me it looks like the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus. If you look closely you can see there is no circle in the middle of the award like on the Military Order of Savoy. I also can't see the wreath. See the photo comparison below. What do you think?

I'm sorry. Are you talking about the Military Order of Savoy or the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus? I want to know if Donitz recieved the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, or more specifically what is the neck order he is wearing on the photo. Commander Grade you say.

Hello Pierce. Did you find out if Donitz was awarded the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus? If he is indeed wearing it on the photo what class is it? The Grand Officer? On my list of Donitz's awards I have the following Italian decorations: -Knight's Cross of the Italian Military Order of Savoy (20 April 1940) -Commander's Cross of the Italian Military Order of Savoy (7 November 1941) If that indeed is the Grand Officer's Cross of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus I would like to add it to the database over on the Axis History Forum. Please confirm. Thanks

Kriegsmarine Medal + Ribbon Bars Reference Thread

Pierce, do you still have Grassmann's medal and ribbon bars in your private collection? I bumped into the info that he was the only Jewish admiral in the Kriegsmarine. May I ask for the source of this claim? It's interesting to me. Were both his father and mother Jewish? Do you have more info in general? Thanks
  11. Thank you Pierce. I can clearly see the 2 black stripes on the edges of the last ribbon. I tried and zoom in the photo, see below. Regarding his bio, nothing explicit: -Engineering-Officer with the Staff of the Commander of Armoured Ships (25 Sep 1936-07 Nov 1938) -Chief Of Staff of the Ship-Machine-Inspection (08 Nov 1938-10 Dec 1939)
  12. Vizeadmiral (Ing.) Walter Fröhlich - EK II - Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer ??? - Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung I. Klasse - Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung III. Klasse - Sudetenland Medaille ???
  13. Vizeadmiral Kurt von dem Borne - EK II - Königlich Bayerischer Militärverdienstorden IV. Klasse mit Schwertern ??? - Großherzoglich Oldenburgisches Friedrich August-Kreuz II. Klasse - Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer - Wehrmacht-Dienstauszeichnung I. Klasse - Wehrmacht-Dienstauszeichnung III. Klasse - Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938 mit Spange “Prager Burg” ??? He didn't mount the KVK2x on his ribbon bar, but it is the ribbon on the 2nd buttonhole. (not visible on this photo)
  14. Pierce? See above please.
  15. Here is perhaps a better photo that might confirm the Ehrenzeichen des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes 1. Stufe? (please confirm Pierce) Also what about the second row of his ribbon bar? Any ideas, 4 ribbons I think?
  16. Hello, can someone help me with these 2 breast awards of General Vladimir Laxa? 1 I think this is the Romanian Order of the Crown? What Class? 2 Perhaps Bulgarian Order of Military Merit? What Class? Thanks!

    Two unknown badge awards

Hi guys, can you please help me ID the 2 awards of Admiral Hermann von Fischel? 1 Could it be the Stern of the Spanischen Orden für Verdienste zur See or Spanisch-Marrokanisches Mehdauia-Orden? (he was awarded both of these awards) 2 Is this the Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie?
  19. Kriegsmarine Großadmiral

    Two unknown badge awards

Sorry, here is the photo. And also the full photo of the one above.
  20. Kriegsmarine Großadmiral

    Two unknown badge awards

Thank you Pierce. Regarding No. 2: The quality of the photo is bad but you can clearly see the inside of the award to be separated in half (empty space on the top and filled space on the bottom) - just like the Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie (see the photo below). Only the barrel of the gun isn't visible, but that may be due to the poor quality of the photo. Secondly, Fischel was the Marinebefehlshaber Kanalküste and then Kommandierender Admiral Kanalküste, so I guess that would make him eligible for the Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie. It was often awarded to Admirals serving on coastline duties (to my knowledge). Would you agree with these 2 points (the award itself and Fischel's command post)?
  21. Kriegsmarine Großadmiral

    Two unknown badge awards

Yes, I am 100% sure it is Hermann von Fischel on the photo. The photo was taken in France, and Fischel was the Kommandierender Admiral Kanalküste. On his right pocket he is wearing the Spanienkreuz in Gold mit Schwertern. I just want to identify the awards number 1 and 2 on this photo.
  22. Kriegsmarine Großadmiral

    Two unknown badge awards

    Anyone? Please.
  23. What is this award? Braunschweig Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse or Mecklenburg-Schwerin Militärverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse? Or something else? Thanks!

Char. Vizeadmiral Karl Bartenbach Unknown Badge Award

Here is the problem. He retired in 1920 and wasn't active again until 1934. So he isn't in the Reichsmarine Rangliste. And the 1918 RL lists only the following:
  25. Kriegsmarine Großadmiral

Char. Vizeadmiral Karl Bartenbach Unknown Badge Award

I found info that The Schaumburg-Lippe cross of 1st class was only awarded to princely persons (36 pieces awarded). And before, when you identified Bartenbach's medal bar, you said one of the medals was the Braunschweig Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse. So doesn't it make more sense that this unknown award above is the 1st class of the Braunschweig Kriegsverdienstkreuz? Just my opinion.
