  1. If you have any badges that you are uncertain about and want some opinions, post them here.
  2. WWI pre 1919 version of the ASC OR's cap badge in brass on a slider. They were given the Royal prefix after WWI for their sterling work and became the RASC.
  3. Jerry B

    Derbyshire regiment

1891 to 1902 bi metal cap badge for the NCO's glengarry cap, wore prior to the amalgamation of the regiment to become the sherwood foresters.
  4. The intention is to post high quality images of known original examples of British military cap badges from any period, though with an emphasis on those from the 20th century, but if any members have badges from an earlier period or from contemporary British armed forces they are also welcome. If any members wish to add badges to the data base it is best to contact me by pm and an arrangement can be made to add them. All regiments/corps/services will be covered as and when original examples are available from members collections (or examples they used to own and have pictures of) but all must be the members own images and not any that have been taken from another source. It will probably take many years to complete this project and in fact it is likely to be never ending as new examples are found by the forums members. The original thought was that I would post all the images and I am happy to do this, though it might be best if members wish if they post their own images and descriptions either by creating a new thread in the relevant subsection -ie infantry- for the unit in question or if a thread already exists, such as for the Artists rifles OR's badges, then the thread can be unlocked to allow new images to be added. There will be two threads for each unit, one for officers badges and one for other ranks (OR'S) and we can add as many variations of the basic badge as is needed or available, such as WWI & WWII "normal" badges and economy versions, also post war Queens crown versions etc or unusual but original variations, such as private purchase silver examples or makers variations or whatever. The idea is to be as comprehensive as possible and to include any features that might be of use, such as fixing type, date used, badge composition (gilding metal/brass, white metal, silver, plastic etc) and any makers marks if they have them, though these are more commonly seen on officers badges. If you have any badges that you would like to include but are unsure of their originality then please post them in the badges for opinions thread. http://www.historicalwarmilitariaforum.com/topic/4837-badges-for-opinions-post-them-here/ If any badges added to the data base are considered to be incorrect then please start a thread stating which badges and why they are wrong and the data base can be edited, as it would be good to gwet this correct and be useful as a reference for any members we have now or might have in the future.
