  1. I thought that I would share images of this Wehrpass which is the final item to join my collection in 2016. It belongs to a long term member of the Luftwaffe who joined the Wehrmacht in 1935 and flew many transport missions as a pilot during WW-2 until his death in a flying accident in 1944. Transport related items seem to be an often ignored area for collectors, at least in the world of paper but when you consider that they often flew in hostile airspace in slow aircraft and laden with cargo or troops it is a wonder that more didn't win high honours. Without these transport crews many battles and campaigns would of floundered much sooner than they did so from a strategic point of view they were vital. The invasions of Holland in 1940 and Crete in 1941 and the resupply of Demyansk, Africa and Stalingrad all relied on the unwieldy Ju-52 transport aircraft and their crews.
  2. A cloth example of the DKiG in wear on the Kreigsmarine uniform. The recipient is unknown to me. Regards,Martin.
  3. GWilliamson

    DKiG in wear: Heer

Oberleutnant Josef Glatz of 1./ Panzerjäger-Abteilung 46, cloth DK on field grey backing worn on the black Panzerjacke.
  4. As the topic title entitles to, please show us your field photographs and studio portraits with the German Cross in Gold (Deutsches Kreuz in Gold) in wear by Waffen-SS personnel. Here a studio portrait of mine. Depicted is SS-Obersturmführer Johann "Hans" Wachter, who sadly was Killed in Action during the Battle of the Bulge.
  5. Also from my father's collection which I allowed to share. This Deutsches Kreuz in Gold belonged to Oberfeldwebel Karl Steinweg (KIA)
  6. This is the newest item in my collection having arrived just a couple of hours ago. It is a replacement Wehrpass (issued late 1943) to Hauptmann Hans Bambey who served in numerous Flak units from the time he joined the Luftwaffe in 1936 to wars end. Incidentally even post-war he served in air defence units, being Chef des Stabes in 4. Luftverteidigungsdivision & 4 Luftwaffendivision as an Oberst. Despite it being a replacement Wehrpass I just couldn't resist grabbing it as I just love the photo that is in it, showing Bambey with his Hauptmann rank pips, collar tabs and wearing his visor cap. He finished the war serving with 30 Flakdivision which was responsible for railway flak units, however he wasn't assigned to the unit until April 1945 so his stay with them was brief.
  7. Here is a Wehrpass that was issued to eventual Oberleutnant Willy Schulze who became Kompanie Kommandeur of 5 Kompanie in Grenadier Rgt 464 (253 Infantry Division) which would spend the vast majority of the Russian Campaign as a component of AG Mitte. He joined the Heer in 1937 and served with Infnaterie Rgt 78 for 2 years. Afterthe Polish Campaign in 1939 he went to Inf.Ers.Btl 78 for a year before being assigned to Infanterie Rgt 464 with which he spent the remainder of his life. As he was with Inf.Rgt 464 until 1944 he would of been involved in the heavy fighting at Rzhev during 1942, an area that Russian soldiers had nicknamed 'The Meat Grinder' due to the relentless fighting and casualties. During this fighting he was awarded the EK I. Awards up to 42: SA Sports Badge Westwall Medal Black Wound Badge - 4th Aug 1941 Infantry Assault Badge - 15th Aug 1941 EK II - 14th Oct 1941 EK I - 30th Aug 1942
