This is my Grandfathers civilian ID card and his certificate for service in the Home Guard.
The story in the family is that he served on an anti aircraft gun at Low Hall farm, Walthamstow. My Mother recalls her mother telling her "that is dads gun" as it was the loudest [nearest] when they were in the Anderson shelter during a raid.
Printed on the ID card it reads....71st ???HG HAA . BTY. B Troop. [ I an not sure but the ??? could be SWL]
Also the word Battalion and Home Guard are embossed on the card.
I know this is Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery. Can anyone help with the 71st ???
Also what cap badge is he likely to have worn ?
Would he have been entitled to the Defence Medal ?
Thanks Graham.
