  1. A trio of postcards with Austro-Hungarian soldiers. The first two show officers posing with gas masks in a before & after theme. The third is an officer with soldiers presumably under his command. The officer common to all three is positioned far left in each photo. The hand written messages on the gas mask group photos are dated September 1917. The third postcard has no writing or postmark. In the group photos I believe our officer has Leutnant insignia while in the third photo he has Oberleutnant insignia; suggesting the third photo was taken after the first two in the late 1917 or 1918 time frame. Any comments, corrections, or additional insight are welcome. Enjoy! Ben
  2. Gentlemen, I am starting a thread with photos of WW1 German soldiers with gas masks and will gradually add photos from my collection as I scan them. I invite all of you to share any relevant photos from your collections as well. Just a couple of rules: 1) Please stick to photos of WW1 era; no WW2 stuff. 2) Photos from other Central Powers armies (Austro-Hungarian, Bulgarian, Turkish) are OK as long as they are equipped with masks of German manufacture. 3) Photos of gas mask canisters are OK as long as the canisters are prominently displayed. Feel free to leave comments, corrections, or other insight. Hope you enjoy! Ben
  3. Gentlemen, I am starting a thread with photos of WW1 American soldiers with gas masks and will gradually add photos from my collection as I scan them. I invite all of you to share any relevant photos from your collections as well. Just a couple of rules: 1) Please stick to photos of WW1 era; no WW2 or later stuff. 2) Photos of Americans with British SBR or French M2 masks are welcome since there were no American manufactured masks immediately available when the US entered the war. 3) Photos of gas mask satchels are OK as long as the satchels are prominently displayed. Feel free to leave comments, corrections, or other insight. Hope you enjoy! Ben
  4. The Vietnam Conflict issued M17 I should be getting in the mail soon is coming with the M6 chemical protection hood. On the chemical hood there is tape that reads as following: Sgt. Holden 354 EMS Phase A few of my friends and I from the GMCC believe this could mean the mask was re-issued to a police/fire DP EMS unit. What do you guys think?
