This is a late interwar Other Rank's SD cap, with the sewn top seam on the band and the wider chinstrap, dating to the late 1930s. The WW1 versions had darker and narrower chinstraps with rounded edged brass buckles. The lining on earlier examples was also black oilcloth, while this is rough cloth with a leather sweatband. The peak is cloth covered with green cloth (not plasticised or vinyl) underside. The side buttons are browned bronze General List as seems common on such caps. Any thoughts?
Hi everyone, I just wanted to share a picture of my First World War peak cap, badged for an Engine Room Artificier 4th class. The cap is part of a grouping with other uniform items and photos. The owner saw service form 1915 to 1919 and this caps dates to 1915. The badge is the same style as that used by Petty Officers, but ERAs used a purple ground instead of a black one. The gold anchor also shows this ERA was part of the Civil Branch (engineers / accounting etc). Best wishes and seasons greetings to all. Oli
