Kriegsmarine Minesweeper Portraits

Recommended Posts

Friends and Fellow Collectors and Researchers:

As those who know me are aware, my photographic and document pursuits are quite a small niche--

specifically related only to Hilfskreuzer portraits, photographs, snapshots and other papers and documentation.

However, during times when that area was relatively quite, I began to pick up Minesweeper portraits, if the price was right and the timing was convienient.

So today, I decided to go through them in earnest and start cataloging them. I was pretty happy to realize that I've started off on a nice collection of Minesweeper portraits too!

Most of the portraits are shared here for the benefit of the forum member's review, I hope maybe someone else finds as much interest and enjoyment from them as I do.

Very Kind Regards,

Joe

Joe, one of the best "Minesweeper badge" Portrait collection I have seen, there are some stunning examples in your collection. Few officers with the EK1 and I recogn some also have the High Seas Fleet Badge (one of the most beautiful awards)? Thanks for sharing them!

P.S. Sadly even with the best watermarks available, just with a little photoshop, specialists delete the watermark at ease. All those people who steal such photographs and sell it for their own profit most likely all master this skill. The Forum can have it automated for you to put a Forum Watermark on your attachments, if you would like this, send me a PM.

Bart:

Thanks for your comment. There are a few that are so clear, crisp and perfectly focused, where; in those photos, the badge details are amazing! I only scanned them at 600 and I really reduced the resolution to post them here, but you can still see the detail on the clear ones.

Well, I am a bit biased....I think the Auxiliary Cruiser is the most beautiful and poignant badge design there is! Perhaps, the High Seas Fleet Badge is the **second** most beautiful badge...

Thanks for the watermark info. PM to follow!

Joe

Thanks for sharing this collection.

I agree, watermarks are a good deterrent, but like a lock,  a lock just keeps honest people honest.  If someone wanted to remove a watermark, they could easily do this.

Quite interesting to see the Heinz Echler grouping. Have you identified which camp he was located at and how he came to surrender?

Best regards,

JustinG
