Earlier this year i took a punt and won on Greedbay an auction for a Malayan Scouts arm shield.

I wasnt 100% so took a punt with a view to returning if not right.

When i received it it looked pretty good, but there was something about the way the scroll behind the lettering didn't come across right.

The press studs were held on with cotton (that didnt melt but burnt - good sign)

The leather on the back (why?) looked aged and was sewn on with a different coloured cotton that burnt,   didnt melt.

But a slight little part of the leather at one corner had been pulled back, just slightly.

I took a UV light to it and it lit up like Christmas.

I informed the seller, he refunded, and relisted without annotating the listing that it was not original.

I have since met the new owners (i was approached by the owner saying he had a shield for sale that was right). I described it and he was heart broken when it was the same.

He pulled the corner back more and it really does light up.

Beware you have been warned (I have offered to buy it for my collection anyway but the owner wants to try and make some money back, possibly on ebay. Hence this post.

well goes to show that anything has been fraud these days...  but good thing the seller refunded and also set for sale as a repro..  not all sellers would do that ...

sure you can write "return garantee" but in the end if the seller dosent, what can be done about it ?

the leather was surely put there to hide the God damn black light disco !

Oh the guy resisted WITHOUT alluding to the fact that it was a fake.

The current owner paid a lot for its D was gutted when I told him about a good fake doing the rounds (without realising that he had it).

poor sod.

But he is looking at relisting himself to make his money back.

Hence my posts on some forums.
