Helmet with red band ?

4 posts in this topic

Any thoughts as to what the red band means. I am thinking maybe something to do with the post ww2 AFS or a factory fire service but hope it is something from ww2. No sign of any decals.

The liner is marked BMB 1940.  I can make out HD 1939 and SS or possibly JSS on the shell.

Thanks for the replies. All the NFS helmets I see have decals. The AFS was amalgamated with the NFS in 1941 but was reintroduced after the war and continued to 1968 and even longer in N.Ireland. I am told the post war AFS were equipped initially with ww2 era helmets. I am still hoping the red band is connected to its ww2 service.
