NSDAP Eagle Restoration.

Trying to restore my two eagles that have been badly damaged over the years, before I got them.

Made up of a type of plaster with a stringy material inside (?)

The first eagle has been painted a glossy gold, and you can see the damage to the wing edges..

Second eagle, in what I believe to be the correct darker colour gold.

You can clearly see the colour difference.

The work starts and the trouble some stringy material isn't hepling at all, it keeps crumbling off in parts.

The first picture shows the new filler added and then rubbed down to get the shape back.

As the wing edges are damaged and shortened, it is hard to build them up again.

The second eagle being prepaired for the filler, you can see the damage and the stringy pieces.

Some of the eagles claws are also missing.

Just hope I can do these eagles justice..

Cheers John, the filler's smell is some times over powering and you have to mix it outside.. and it's raining at the moment.

Just waiting for it to clear and might do some more work at the weekend.

Finally got some primer on one side and more filler on the other.

It's been hard to build up the "missing" edges of the wings, but at last some progress.

It was in a too bad of state Rich, it was crumbling and falling apart.. it needed help.

Finally some gold paint applied, rubbed down and being made ready for a coat all over.

A good rub down with scotch brite pad, the eagle is given it's new paint.

The colour is wrong for this eagle, it needs to be a lot darker, so I'll use these first coats as a base coat.

I'll get some more paint mixed soon.

Considering the poor state it was in, being bashed about for years, I think the repairs have come out well..

Started on the darker eagle now and have cut a few corners here and there.

The dark paint is wrong and in some places it has started to peel off.

Two of it's talons have broken off and there was a big crack on one of it's wings.

Now sorted, although I still have to do some more work on it's feet.

Gave it a good rub down all over, primered it up and give it a coat of gold paint.

The different colours are clearly shown here.

The darker colour is nearer to what I believe is it's original shade.

Some more work needed on it's feet and then I'll see what the final colour should be?

Both Eagles now resprayed and mounted on their marble towers.

Delighted to have finally finished them and to have given them a new lease of life.
