Luftwaffe buckle... J.C. Maedicke made?

Recommended Posts

I recently acquired this Luftwaffe buckle. I have thoroughly checked it & have found no maker’s markis/date. The interior-side shows a dark, field blue paint. The exterior shows a silver finish with some wear & oxidation. This could be paint but looks/feels more like some kind of metallic wash or nickel. I believe this was manufactured by J.C. Maedicke. I have seen numerous steel buckles, bearing a silver-colored finish. Does anyone know why this was done? Was it done by the manufacturer or, possibly, the individual soldier, to mimick the finish of the older, aluminum buckles? Or were these for “dress uniform” wear?
