Tragic story of a young couple Actress and Pz Mann.

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Been out to play today and have got this group.

It is from a young couple, he appears to be a tank man and she and actress.

She enjoyed some success post war I can see from what I have here in the group but rather like her war time pass.

It seems she was at some point married to the you officer and he was injured in 1942 with gunshot wound to the lungs and in 1943 blown up by a mortar round loosing an arm and a leg in due course before dieing of his wounds in 1944.

His young wife writes to OKW to ask permission to be by his bedside to give hime strength to recover from his wounds, he sends her a telegram stating she should under no circumstances visit the feld lazaret.

She then gets a series of letters formally informing her of his death.

She also has a feldpost that appears to at first glance have been written by a childs scrawl but reading into his wounds and eventual loss of his right arm it could be he used his left hand to lesser effect. It is without doubt written by him as it reffers to his injuries and operations.

The whole thing kind of reminds me of the German small series Unser Muetter, Unser Faetter!

Wow Richard Wow! Did I mention Wow?Fabulous find !Not intending to be maudlin, the true love of a woman for a man warms the heart.Sadly not an isolated case,I have a similar letter of a woman requesting to be by her wounded soldier husband. This may have been more predominate than we may know.

What a lovely set. Do you know if she married after the war at all?

He is now buried in the war cemetery in Vilnius.

Kev, can't find anything about her on the net but she uses both her married name a maden name as a double barrel surname post war.

I like the telegram, the welfare bloke if they had them back there must have thrown a track with the prospect of a'wife of' visiting a field hospital, Iexpect they made him send the telegram or perhaps sent it for him.

I am sure he did write that he would like her by his side but never dreamed she would try to get there!
