Help with Knights Cross!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I am new to the group and in the collectibles of Irons Crosses.

Someone is offering me a Knights Cross.

But I would like your help to verify if this is a original or copy!!

Attached are the photos they sent me. Please excuse the quality, but that's how they sent them.

Thanks in advance and best Regards

Robert

Well, I guess I'll be the first and say that this is not what I would expect to see with a period made Ritterkreuz. First off, the stamping looks like it is trying to be a S&L 4.  However, from the photos you shared, the core is a 1 piece construction.  This is not found on any RK regardless of maker.  Would you do me a favor, would you obtain a picture where the suspension ring is placed and on the metal loops, there appears to be a stamping number within the loop; I can barely make this out but it is present.  Can you ask for detailed shot of that please?  Check out the thread here:

You will see on all these crosses, that there is a fine seam, these were typically 3 part constructed pieces.  Yours seems like it is a single piece (No seam)  William Kramer (AllIKnew) posted a great picture showing that seam for the S&L piece.

With how expensive these awards can be, I am glad you asked before putting down a huge chunk of money. Please next time post to the appropriate forum. You will have better luck getting an answer and the right people with the knowledge to give you the best and quick response.

Best Regards,

JustinG
