CDR Samson's uniform

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help identify this uniform?

The photo was taken during the Dardanelles campaign in 1915 on the island of Tenedos.

I'm sure it was a mixed uniform adapted for the tropical environment. The subject of the photo is Command Charles R. Samson, Royal Naval Air Service.

I am assuming that the jacket is a standard pattern Khaki jacket of some sort modified with Navy shoulder rank.

I'm also curious about the pants. I'd assumed they were the Gray pants Royal Navy officers would sometimes wear. They seem to be a different material than the jacket.

wow, not much of a response. Darn.

I previously showed this photo to someone else and they immediately recognized the jacket and said it was a XXXXX, XXXXXX used up to 1941. Unfortunately I failed to record the candidate jacket pattern, so I'm still stuck trying to find a starting point.

this forum is very quiet these days, so no surprise you have had no responses.
