Great set of cap emblems Peter.

I love these traditions badges.I have posted a postwar badge from the Hilfskreuzer Atlantis.

This is the only original one that i have from the 1st U-Flotille,Brest.

Cheers, Martin.

I moved these posts from the Awards thread, as these cap emblems deserve their own thread in the KM section so it also receives more attention. Thanks for sharing! Does anyone have Studio portraits showing these in wear?

All:

Picture from my reference library is an article by Eric Lefevre and Bertrand Malvaux that may be of interest to you. 'The magazine 'Militaria Militaria' is no-longer published in English, but issues can sometimes be found on ebay.

Best regards,

John

I can see that Kai Winkler has posted some cap badges on his latest update. What are your opinions on those badges (if you have seen them)?

André,

The two for the 9.U-Flottille and the 1.U-Flottille are both originals, but very expensive.

The two Edelweiß ones are just Gebirgsjäger badges, also known to be used on Uboats, but sold very expensive now as being Uboat examples.

The Olympic rings are from the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin Germany, several sizes were made, with and without markings on the back, several dealers do have them for sale, when bought as an Olympic 1936 badge you pay a normal price, when sold as a Uboat cap badge you see what can happen to the price.

Hard to say when the other ones shown on that site were made.......could be wartime or postwar.

Best regards

Eric-Jan

The last photo in post # 6 is taken in La Pallice.

On 20.4.1944 U-198 left France for her second and last war patrol, she was sunk with all hands on 12.8.1944.

The photo shows U-198 E-Obermaschinist Otto Pick (who served on U-103 and U-198)

Deutsches Kreuz in Gold 22.12.1943.
