Watch out ... fakes and reproductions !

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

A dealer ( having a strong reputation to "sometimes" sell fake as original :whistling: ) just posted two similar pieces on his update.
Seems we have been educating a new breed of fakers .... the downside of exploring our hobby to the fullest, I'm afraid.

1. Its a modified ( fake ??? ) 1957 frame - they drilled the loop eye to make it look like a "B" frame
2. They added the small square dent on the loop eye to simulate again the "B" frame ( see red square on last picture ).
3. The dealer has taken the snapshots as such, so one cannot clearly see the known flaws - clever from his side, but dangerous for potential buyer.

For the untrained collector, it looks good. But personally I give this new type the 11.gif11.gif11.gif .

Watch out guys, they are getting close, but still no cigar ( luckily ).

Grtz,

Mathijs

Many thanks for posting that, Mathijs

As we all know the early 57er RK´s are growing in collectors interest and the market is full of late and modern pieces.

Very good to see that they tried to manipulate the frame to look like a very early one with drilled out eye   For an experienced collector the very glossy paint is another red flag and compared with the worked frame a no go for anyones collection.

I too give both, dealer and RK, a

Hi friends,

i thought it would be good to make a thread where we all can post pieces for sale or auctions that are not good. For example fake pieces, put together groups.

Especially as the 57ers are growing in interest and price you find many crap at auction houses like ebay or hood. For the not so experienced members for sure helpful and for us old dogs a good way to support our collecting friends :squint:

This thread will be pinned at the top and everyone can post here.

Looking forward for your support, friends.

I´ll start of course  :squint:

Be careful with this grouping offered at ebay germany.

The dog tag is from a guy who was born on 24th July 1958 and so it does not fit the 57er ww2 bar.

Ribbon bar, dog tag and shoulderboards are ok but the whole little group is completely put together. So don´t pay more than the normal worthy of each piece  :pinch:

Great idea Rudiger !...... I saw the above grouping, and rather hoped nobody I knew would have a bid on this set thinking it was from a WW2 vet.......Remember Gents, buy the items not the story, unless of course there is strong evidence/provenance !

 Prost ! Steve.

Watch out here, friends.

Bar is IMO a modern made one. Looks quite impressive but as usual only highest awards on.....even a golden Bandenkampf and CCC  :pinch:

Sellers name "freund asianart" says IMO all. Made in Taiwan

So better save your money for a less impressive but honest bar.

Thanks for this thread Rüdiger, although there is nothing new under the sun, fakers and dealers will do everything possible to make some money.

Best regards

This badge looks to a fake cast piece of a rare LW tank badge.....currently on flea-bay...or just a late example.

Again, if you try your luck on eBay, do have knowledge on 1957 issue badges .... 90% is bad and then the other 10% is most likely overpriced :cursing:.

Know what you want to buy, want you are buying and set a limit price ... some items are worth the investment, others certainly not !!!

Sad day to find this one on a major dealer site ......

Front side = poor attempt for a 57er DKiG

Back side = very dangerous (!) as it imitates the early wide pin by St&L

Watch out for this one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet another Morigi fake popping up on eBay and sadly selling for close to 150 Euro (!!!)

Do watch out for these guys ! If you are unsure, contact one of the senior members and ask their opinion !
