C Company 2 Vol North Staffords

This  photo  pre  dates  the  forming of  the  territorials  and is  taken  in  Tamworth  Castle  Grounds underneath  the  bandstand. Amongst these  men  were  those  who  fought in  the  Boer  War in  the  2nd  Volunteers North  Staffordshire  Regiment

Amongst  those on  the  above photo  is  the  man  below,  Sgt  Thomas  Harper.  A Boer  War  veteran and  died whilst  attached  to  172  Tunnelling  company in  April  1915

 

Sgt Harper is  buried  at  Kemmel Chateau CWGC cemetery

This  is  a post  WW1  photo  of  the  Tamworth  boys. The  Sgt  at  the back on  the left  is  John Harper,  brother of  Thomas  in  the  first  posting. Note  the  ribbon bars of  on  the  chests of  the  2  men  standing.

Sorry  Martin,  these  are only  scans  i  have from  the  research  i  made  with  the  families of  the  Tamworth  territorials.  They  are  for 1914/15  Star,  British  war  medal  and  Victory  medal. Sgt  Harper  was invalided out late in  1915  with  frost  bite!!!
