Unit: Füsilier-Bataillon 353, 353. Infanterie-Division

Awarded for action in/at: St. Lo/Normandy

Signature:Dietrich Kraiß

Status: Part of a group

Füsilier-Bataillon 353 was part of "Kampfgruppe Böhm" which was to support 352. Infanterie-Division near St. Lo. That is why the document is signed by the commander of 352. Infanterie-Division!

Unit: Kampfgruppe von der Heydte

Awarded for action in/at: Ardennes

Signature: Kurt Student

Status: Part of a group

Kampfgruppe von der Heydte consisted of 1200 paratroopers and participated in "Operation Stößer" on Dec. 16/17 1944, the last german airborne operation of the war. The Kampfgruppe was ordered to capture important crossroads near Malmedy, but failed as only 250 men managed to successfully make it to the operation area. Some were droped in wrong spots, many died in the air or while landing, some were captured and just a handful of soldiers made it back to the german lines and were awarded the Iron Cross by Student himself. Incredibly rare document, probably my best one!!

Here's one I also have, document of Grenadier-Regiment 916 (352. Volks-Grenadier-Division).. Awarded for actions during the Ardennes Offensive. It's a beautiful group. He has various Nahkamftage in Ettelbrück etc.

@Bart V. : Amazing citation of a unit with lots of Western Front history! The 352. Infanterie-Division which later became 352. Volksgrenadier with its most famous member Heinrich Severloh saw heavy action at Omaha Beach... a very desirable document you´ve got there, interesting that "Mit der Führung beauftragt" isn´t shortened down to "m.d.F.b", never seen that before! Makes it kind of unique!

@Kevin H: Thank you very much for the information on Wadehns signature, always good to bring some light into the "dark corners" of a collection!
