N.Africa photo album.

Recommended Posts

I have a similar set of images here to those that Jerry posted in a recent thread in that they were taken during the North African campaign.

I have two albums that were compiled by a Major in the Royal Tank Regiment. The first album includes images mainly taken in N.Africa and the second album includes images taken in Italy and Germany.

These albums were given to my father by the family of the Major as my father is the branch chairman of the Birmingham RTR Association.

His medals were given to the RTR museum at Bovingdon in Dorset,i beleive.

Now,it appears that Major was an avid photographer. The N.Africa album includes about 145 images and most of them are of a "tourist" nature including cities, monuments, local people, etc.

I am posting about 30 images that i think are of a military interest and there are some good ones here.

Fortunately, the Major captioned all of the images in his album,so no explanation is required from me.

Enjoy.

Martin.

And the final few for now.

There were some rather gory images in the albums of dead soldiers and even a set of Mussolini hanging upside down in the second album.

No need to show these i think.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for showing your nice and interesting Africa photos.

Are you able to read the names on the German grave markers ?

If so, can you tell me what is written on them ?

Thanks

Best regards

Eric-Jan

Anyway,i scanned them at high resolution so hopefully you can make something out of them.
