Souval Marine Frontspange......

Recommended Posts

Gents, just picked this up......a Souval made "Marine Frontspange" (Naval Combat clasp), typical hardware, early thin pin, and very small mm on rear, barely readable, but under close magnification I can just make our what looks like "L58"....bronze finish still on back, but sadly gone from the front !

Very nice clasp, Steve.

These can be found from time to time but mostly without the maker mark. So this one would be for me the only collectable Souval version. Souval made these in silver version too what is of course fantasy. Only the brinze grade was issued and there were no plans for a silver or even gold grade.

We don´t know if Deumer made navy clasps. Till yet i didn´t saw a navy clasp that could have been attributed to Deumer. All were made by S&L or Souval without any doubts.

Great catch, buddy

Hello out there. Have one, but a self-styled "expert" in Norway claims this is not genuine? What do you think guys?  Sincerely, Olaf Olsen

Difficult one - it gives me mixed feelings .... I wouldn't buy unless dirt cheap.

- mark (1) = should not be found on this badge ( these are unmarked or if marked, only L/58 )

- pin = looks good ( like I've seen before on early badges )

- hinge block = consistent with known examples

- catch = not seen before

- overall condition = seems like on the edges ( contours ) there are signs of casting
