Hi Bart,

I do read : "Een moeilijk kinderbed" or am I wrong ?

That photo clearly shows "a company or heroes"

Thanks for showing.

Best regards

Eric-Jan

Great  pictures  Bart.  I  posted  some of  my  French WW1 collection of  photos. All  these  photos  are  very  much  underrated in  my  view  when  compared  to  German  photos.

T^hanks  very  much  for  showing  these

Jim

Fantastic photos, anything Belgian or French is very much underrated in my opinion.

I picked up a photo the other day which has the same insignia on the sleeve as in the two photos immediately above, does anyone know what its for? I was thinking an infantry scout maybe?

I'd like to have a go at colouring the photo so the colour of the insignia would be helpful too as there's nothing I could find online to help me.

Thanks for any help.

@Tony, I also have had difficulty finding any substantial resources online regarding Belgian uniforms.  From the few WW1 photos I've seen, just like the French Army's uniform, the Belgian uniform changed extensively over the years of 1914-1918.  I suspect photographic examples are less numerous because 95% of Belgium was overrun during the war and Belgium probably couldn't muster nearly as many troops as other Allied nations.

I am considering purchasing the book The Belgian Army In World War I by Ronald Pawly & Pierre Lierneux.  The link is to the publisher's website, but it is also available on Amazon.

I have been trying to expand my WW1 photo collection to include more Belgian soldiers.  Below is a photo from my collection taken in a studio in Seraing, Liège:

Belgian-Soldier-01.jpg

Not sure if this was taken during WW1 or sometime in between the World Wars.

@Bart V., thanks for starting this thread.  I hope to contribute more in the future.

Ben
