hi guys,i would like your valued opinion on this allegedly felix steiner brass inkwell set ,.a knowlegable friend of mine has his doubts, reasons being

quality ,not up to godet and sohn standard

makers mark on bottom   it should be j godet and not t godet

roses not really in ss iconolgy(new word to me that)

his valued opinion is that it was just an ordinary piece to start with, then all the steiner bits added later just to up the value of it.

following picture is of the makers mark on base(cannot get all on same page.

makers mark on base .

it should read   j godet and sohn  not t godet.

my friend mentioned there were a few pieces of curved medals where because of the radius ,the bottom of the j was never struck properly, but this,as you can see the stamping area is very flat.

he also commented on how fresh it looked, but when I got it it was absolutely dirty, like my candle holder, locked away to perish.

do not be afraid to hurt my feelings guys, even if it crap,i love it

regards pete

thank you odal for your reply.if you right click on thumbnail then click open link it will bring up larger to read the engravings, they are really well done, deep and vibrant.it came from a very well known English collector who unfortunately is letting things perish slightly as he can no longer manage.the inkwell was so black and grimy you coudlnt see the runes at all on the inkwells.

the other disappointing thing about it is the runes on the front feet, the left one looks like it has been re touched, surely not something godet would have let slip by.

Yep another fantasy product! Stamps are a minefield.

This one is easy with the bad detail, the reversed swas on the handle or actually the fact that there is an eagle on the handle and would you really believe the Führer would allow his head on top of a stamp?
