Collecting WWII Period British Police, Fire Brigade, A.F.S., & N.F.S.

Recommended Posts

Technically items from these organizations are not "militaria", but I have recently begun adding a "Blitz" section to my WWII collection, and they all played a big part in what the UK went through during the war.  I have been surprised by not being able to find very much on the internet in the way of collectors or dealers that specialize in these categories, other than the occasional piece on a militaria dealers site.

Am I missing something?  Are these not desirable parts of history to collect?  Or am I just not typing the right criteria into my web searches?

If you have items in your collection related to these organizations, please post pictures.

Not my area of collecting but that is a super collection of helmets.

Cheers,Martin.

Quite different than Hilskreuzer Martin, but still full of history.

Awesome helmets as always TinLid.

I am still watching for the right Police MkII to come along, but in the meantime I've started my mannequin with this:

Thanks TinLid, that's what I thought, but the single stripe threw me off.  Did they have Police corporals perhaps?

Yes Jerry, I am thinking about bidding on it.  I have a Sergeant's Police tunic that I've been waiting for the right helmet for.

Trouble with home front helmets you do see a lot of non regulation markings, that can throw you. But if it has age, then...

Hi

For any collectors of National Fire Service (NFS) helmets.  I've just taken the decision to list my entire collection on ebay (for ease).

Only been on an hour and already plenty of interest and the usual watchers!

Various regions and levels of service.

Can do a price on the lot if interested.

Slowly but surely I've been able to put together the makings of a full Police constable mannequin from during the Blitz, but the A.F.S. or N.F.S. mannequin it taking a bit longer.  I was tempted to bid on a helmet or the from the collection of JFarr29 above, but decided instead to hold out for a nice one from one of the London stations.

In the meantime, the toughest item to find has been the fireman's hose spanner and it's canvas carrier for the belt.  I was finally able to pick up the hose spanner below, but am still in search of the black woven case for it.

Here's an interesting (well, to about 4 of us) Police variant...the Chevron transfer has been applied to the rim of the helmet...usually they're above the "POLICE" lettering and below the "SC" badge......perhaps he got promoted and hadn't planned ahead.......

If I'm not included in the 'about 4 of us' it's now about 5 of us. 🙂

I wasn't aware they came in black too.
