Italian, Fronte Russo [Russian Front] badge.

Recommended Posts

I bought a card with about ten various military badges from an antique fair at the weekend.  I had no idea what this one was.

A quick search has revealed this badge was for Italian troops who served on the Russian front between 22nd June 1941 and 5th June 1943. It was also awarded to some German troops attached to C.S.I.R and the 8th Army Corps. Apparently the first issue of the badge had a vertical pin. They are very rare. They then switched to a cheaper diagonally mounted pin. The makers details are on the reverse. Made from zinc , this one has suffered some corrosion to the 'knot of Savoy'. From my online search I believe this is an original example but would value any opinions.
